Gateway Monuments
are Unveiled!

Thursday,
June 8, was the culmination of a long awaited project near and dear to
the KRCB Advisory Board--the Gateway Monument project. "This has
been one of our dreams for so long," Dave roger, Advisory Board
Chairman and the city's former urban forester said. $50,000 was
raised by the board over four years to purchase the eight monuments
which will be placed at eight arterial entrances to our city. The
first monument was placed on Mission Inn Avenue as you enter Riverside
from Rubidoux.
The
effort was a true partnership of citizens, business and government working
together to make a difference! Citizen volunteers from La Sierra University
planted the landscaping; businesses sponsored and supported the project through
KRCB's annual Recognition Dinner & Silent Auction (the major fundraising vehicle
for this project); and city government installed the monument, purchased the
plant material and will maintain the monuments. Thanks to our volunteers,
sponsors and city government for making this vision of the KRCB Advisory Board a
reality!
The remaining seven monuments are scheduled to be placed at: Alessandro at the
215 Freeway, Central Ave at the 60 Freeway, Van Buren Blvd at Firethorn, La
Sierra Ave at Victoria Ave, Arlington Ave at La Sierra Ave, Columbia Ave at Iowa
(in front of Hunter Community Park), and Main Street at Garner.
There are already four monuments in place that were installed in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. These monuments are located at: Market Street near the 60 Freeway, Magnolia Avenue at Buchanan, Trautwein between Van Buren and Orange Terrace, and Van Buren at the Santa Ana River.
