VOLUNTEER ADOPT-A-STREET GUIDELINES
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
- Members of the organization will do cleanup/ maintenance.
- Cleanup/ maintenance will be done six times a year or more frequently over a one-year period.
- Dates to be set by the adopting organization or KRCB Coordinator.
- Both sides of the street must be adopted.
- Each organization will receive two recognition signs.
- Adopting organization must report via “Report Card” after each cleanup – Use KRCB form.
LITTER, WEED AND MISCELLANEOUS DEBRIS REMOVAL
- KRCB can provide trash bags, brooms, rakes, vests and gloves as needed.
- Participants agree to pickup litter, remove weeds and miscellaneous debris from the street and tree wells.
- Sidewalks should be swept.
- Debris should be picked up from both sides of the street, as well as the center median.
- If your organization consists of youngsters below the age of 16, please do not pick up trash in the center medians.
- Please trash in the home or business garbage bins to be picked up during weekly collection.
- Arrangements can be made to have large pieces of debris transported to the City’s corporate yard for dumping.

RECOGNITION SIGNS

The adopting agency’s name will be noted on two recognition signs.
- Signs measure 24” x 30” and will be mounted on existing poles at either end of the adopted street.
In the event of a business partnership with an organization, only the business names will appear on the sign.
APPLICATION

An application to participate must be completed and submitted to the Keep Riverside Clean & Beautiful Coordinator at least two weeks prior to the organizations first scheduled cleanup.
CANCELLATION

If the adopting agency does not fulfill its cleanup requirements 30 day after its scheduled cleanup date, the KRCB Coordinator will conduct a verbal contact. If it continues for 60 days, the Coordinator will give written notice. Finally, if cleanup is not done for a total of 75 days after the scheduled date, the Coordinator will remove the recognition sign- at which point the adoption will be canceled.
SAFETY RULES

The Adopt-A-Street Program is designed to insure a safe environment.
Participants under 14 years of age must have an adult present for every five children.
Adoptable sections will be selected for safety and appropriateness of the participants.
Participants and/ or parents bear individual responsibility for personal safety and appropriate behavior on the street.
- Each participant must complete the City of Riverside/ Keep Riverside Clean & Beautiful (KRCB) Waiver Form.
- Participants will work WITHOUT direct City of Riverside/KRCB supervision and WITHOUT traffic control.
Adult group leaders are responsible for conducting a safety briefing for all participants prior to a cleanup.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Wear comfortable clothes ( preferably bright colors)
- Wear comfortable, close-toed shoes; please no flip-flops
- Wear gloves
- Be sure to remove all bagged trash in a proper disposal container near area
- Stay away from traffic and keep an eye out for danger at all times
- Do not pick up broken bottles without adult supervision
- Do not touch anything that may be toxic/ hazardous- i.e. oil, paint, and gasoline
- Do not horseplay, distract, or interfere with motorists
- Do not work if the road is under construction

- Brooms
- Weeding Hoes
- Safety Vests
- Cones
If needed, KRCB can supply these items for the cleanup on a “tool loan” basis.
